They say opposites attract. Opposites attract, but is it love or hate? The truth is opposites sell. What is better than watching two opposing forces go head to head. We love conflict. Conflict can not exist without divisions, us versus them, black versus white, good versus evil. But, are these divisions real?
What are we really fighting over? Is it as simple as black and white?
A basic principle we must understand is money. Yes, money is a principle in that it has no value other than the value we give it. It’s just paper. Yet, when examining conflict, we must understand artificial divisions would not exist if no one profited from the conflict it produces. Artificial conflicts have a way of separating people from their money. How much money is spent to fund a conflict? How much revenue is generated from the news media covering this artificial conflict they help create?
If there is conflict within, there will be conflict without. Resolve the conflict within and the conflict without will be no more. Is not the real conflict is within, within our own hearts and our own minds? Yet, we are too busy fighting an external enemy and not realizing where our greatest enemy resides --within. We ask for equality. Yet, as long as one must ask for equality, one will never be equal. He who must ask is never equal with he who already has without asking.
As long as the power to grant equality is in the hands of your oppressor, you will never be equal. As long as they who give have the power to give, they also maintain the power to take away. That is not equality. We are already equal and we have the power to take back that which was taken. Yet, we don’t believe that. We believe that only the oppressor has the power to give back our equality. Why give the oppressor that much credit?
Guns. There are those who say we need tougher gun laws. Others say protect the Second Amendment. Can not we have tougher gun laws and protect the Second Amendment? Yet, will the Second Amendment raise a child who lost her parents due to gun violence? Will the Second Amendment bring back the brother or sister who is now gone from this world? The Second Amendment, written to protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Yet, in our efforts to defend it, how many lives, liberties, and pursuits of happiness have we ended?
Some say Black Lives Matter. Others say All Lives Matter. . . the illusion of opposites. One seeks to be right. The other seeks to be more right. Are they mutually exclusive? Can not black lives and all lives matter at the same time? Yet, there are those who would divide us and say this can not be. Conflict breeds wealth for the few by bringing death to the many.
Look at nature. What opposites exist in nature? Does summer oppose winter? Does hot oppose cold? Does not all nature reside in harmony with itself? If you go north will you not eventually be going south? If you go east will you not eventually be heading west? North American is in the western hemisphere, yet it is to the east on nearly every map.
Shades of Grey
Learn to see the world in shades of grey. Yes, white and black exist, but they are only two colors. Why focus on the two and miss everything in between? There is a whole world of beauty between black and white, right and wrong, that we are missing. Open your eyes wide and see. White is not so white. Black is not so black. Like yin and yang, each one is mixed with the other. Yet, grey allows the full expression of the individual in all his or her varieties. And that expression… that grey is beautiful.
See beyond black and white. Find yourself there. See yourself there. Believe in the one you see.
