While anyone can have a negative worldview, this characteristic is particularly acute in Post Traumatic Slave Disorder. You see negativity for those with PTSD manifests itself in two ways. Most people think of negativity as feelings of hopelessness, depression, desperation, pessimism, or despair. However, I want to show you the other side of negativity that you likely are unaware of. This other side of negativity has the appearance of progress, but is holding you back from your purpose. Do you find yourself constantly driving toward a better life, but never seeming to get there? This may be why.
Have you ever known someone who seems to be going in the right direction, but never getting to his or her destination? Perhaps, always looking to improve his or her life, find a better job, get an education, get in shape, or find the right partner? You may be that person, always striving, struggling, fighting to get somewhere, but never arriving? Why not? It's because you are acting out of negative emotions. Although your actions are positive such as looking for a better job, a house, exercising, education, etc., why are you doing those things? What is driving you to seek a better life?
For most of us, we want a better life because we hate where we are currently. We hate our job, we hate our living situation, we hate the relationship we're in, we hate our appearance, we hate our bodies, or we hate being broke. This hate motivates us to change our situation, to get out of the circumstances that we are in. Yet, hate cannot give birth to love. Hate cannot create the life that we love. Thus, every time we act out of hate, anger, bitterness, or violence we create more of what makes us angry, bitter, or violent. So, even if you obtain the object you eagerly desire, it doesn't make you happy. So, you look again for something better, never satisfied.
On the other hand, some of us are held back by fear. We're afraid of change, afraid to start our own business, afraid of a new relationship, afraid to get hurt, afraid to take a leap of faith, afraid to try anything new. So, we just seek to survive, never reaching our full potential. Fear leads to inaction, while hate leads to the wrong action.
So, what am I saying? I'm saying that when you act out of negative emotions, fear, loneliness, anger, hate, violence, bitterness, then you tend to settle for anything that gets you out of that situation. You never find your life purpose because all you care about is getting out of the situation you know is not your purpose. You are negotiating with life, but negotiating from a position of weakness. You are desperate. You'll do anything to get out of your situation or change your life. So, you take the first guy or gal that comes into your life after a broken relationship. You settle for the first job that offers you more money than your current job, but you hate the new job twice as much as the last one.
It's like being really hungry. Have you ever been "starv'in like Marvin"? You'll settle for anything to feed your hunger, even if it is some garbage fast food. Although you may be hungry, you don't have to be desperate. Chose to starve before you make a choice inconsistent with your life purpose. You got to want it as bad as life itself, not out of desperation, fear, or anger, but out of joy and hopefulness.
How do you do it? Pause. Take time to center your emotions and feelings. Generate positive feelings, joy, love, peace, patience, kindness. Believe that you already have what you desire. Believe it is already a reality. Believe you are the person you always wanted to be. Keep believing this. Don't let anything change your mind. By creating an environment like this within yourself, only then can you hear your own inner creativity. This is the incubator for new ideas and insights, not just to get you out of your situation, but to find and fulfill your life purpose. You must act out of a passion for what you want, not what you don't want. Joy has to be your motivation, not hate. Don't forget that. You can do this, you are doing this.
